Is this a good quality accordion for a person that has never picked one up before?

Definitely a good choice. Hohner accordions are well made, more playable than most other brands, and tend to increase in value over time. I've only played Hohner's piano accordions, but am sure the button ones are made to the same high standards. And a 12-button one is a great choice for your first accordion, since larger ones are somewhat daunting. Since the Hohner will hold its value, you'll be able to sell it when you've mastered the 12 bass buttons and are ready to move to a larger model.

I made the mistake of buying a 120-bass accordion as my first, since I got it for an incredible price. The thing was gigantic and cumbersome (albeit beautiful) and I was frustrated beyond belief when I realized I'd never learn to play with that many buttons staring me in the face. So I sold that accordion and moved to a 32-bass one, which was much more appropriate. To be honest, I'd have been better off starting with a 12-bass one, since the fewer bass buttons there are, the easier it is to get acclimated to playing.

While I was looking around, I found the same accordion you have in your link at a better price, in case that's helpful. Here's a link:

Anyway, you can't go wrong with Hohner. Good luck!
